“Security breaches can be plugged. Men and women who have shown themselves to have no character, though, can never be trusted. Not with national security, not with anything.“

I wrote about the Signal leak, and the administration’s disgraceful response.

Also my first book (Achilles Goes Asymmetric), my blog and my #RethinkingMilitaryHonor book all explore this discussion and an alternative view.
Obligatory self-plug, I wrote about this back in 2021 (foreignpolicy.com/2021/04/19/u...).

The distinction is not artificial, it occurs along the same lines in many languages.

What matters in this moment is that the warrior is, by his very nature, authoritarian; only the soldier protects freedom.

Frenetic writing and cutting/pasting from dead #RethinkingMilitaryHonor manuscript has me near 3800 words for Chapter 5 #ProfessionalMilitaryEthics book.

My #RethinkingMilitaryHonor book talks about that but not in a way I could make accessible. Likely good its in limbo. 😮‍💨

So it's been nearly a year since my #RethinkingMilitaryHonor editor has ghosted me.
So I have to figure out what's next.

Any philosophers working on a #philosophy book? Last year I set up a discord to help us keep accountable and say things like "I haven't written anything this week, so much teaching, I'm going to cry now", discuss book proposals, proofs, whatever. I'll try reviving it now. 🧵

My #RethinkingMilitaryHonor book lives. I will serialize it on my blog w/ new posts every Friday.

This was the book I wanted to write; I think it will may have value in putting #Profession back together. (Despite a signed contract, ghosting is a thing.)

No this is the #RethinkingMilitaryHonor book where I argue for an #EthicsofCare informed honor and Profession (Guardian/protector model from my Achillrs book). And Warrior's time is up.

Kwame Appiah on honor groups and honor worlds is instructive. As I was writing ##RethinkingMilitaryHonor (now on hold or dead it seems) I struggled with whether the #Profession was an honor group. I finally decided it's not. Its an intermediate honor world.
