Opened in 1874 at Manpuku-ji Temple, this elementary school moved to its current site in 1934. Although closed in 1975, this beautiful wooden building from that era remains well-maintained and is still used for various community events today.

This 1970s tonkatsu eatery was renovated into a guesthouse. Its tiled walls reflect a common design for mixed-use buildings of that era. The sliding front door has an older feel, suggesting it was added during the renovation.

In the 1970s and 80s, coin games called "elemeka" lined the fronts of candy and liquor shops. Kids gathered with 10-yen coins in hand, flicking levers to reach the goal. Seeing these retro machines still standing here feels like a time warp.

Near Nippori Station stands a striking Showa-era bakery built in 1932. The "encircled cross" emblem on its wall is the founder’s traditional family crest, passed down to this branch shop. I love this unique blend of Western architecture and Japanese crest.

Old shop on Gyoda's former main street. The faded sign reads "Furai-yaki." Not fried, but a flour-and-water pancake, an early Showa hit still loved today. Pure nostalgia.

A building near Chichibu Shrine with a rusty ~1970s sign. Why a Honda car sign on a bike shop? The adjacent sign says it all: "Bicycle & Light Motor Vehicle Association." Back then, local bike shops sold bicycles, scooters, and light cars!

Copper sheeting was common in the 1920s–30s, mostly on flat facades. But this one seems to be an older traditional wooden structure with copper added later for fireproofing. A fascinating piece of aged architectural history.
