Horror revels the most in the rituality of it. He's the only one who misses experiencing anything like that, and so Nightmare and Dream ask if there's anything he would like to add to the experience, and he happily gathers certain plants to press into the wounds to make the scarring more visible.

"By contrast, rituality succeeds in maintaining - not by laws, but by rules and their infinite play of analogies - a form of cyclical order and universal exchange of which the Law and the social are quite incapable."

watching Pokémon in Japanese with its OPs endings, next episode previews and even the spaces that the TV broadcast would've used for the sponsor messages is so cool, it gives the whole experience a bit more rituality idk how else to explain that lmfao

Trees live, fade, and bloom again — holding the earth’s quiet memory.
Time moves, seasons turn, and maybe that’s the point: we change too.

I do think some amount of rituality can preced and promote an honest rethinking of valued tho.
As long as society still expects and demands one even after the apology, at least

Crowded rooms can still feel empty.

Work loneliness is not always being ignored.

Sometimes it’s spending the whole day around people without ever feeling truly seen.

Sometimes it’s being present without feeling met.

Bluesky academics, let's get to know each other! Quote this & tell me: 1) a project you are working on & 2) an odd idea/theory you aren't working on but keep thinking about.
1) origin of Buddhist kingship in medieval China
2) rituality of 'blood' in venecular Chinese religions

1) a short essay on what the 'engagement' in 'engaged buddhism' could mean
2) the affordances of 'thin' theories of meaning

2) public historical engagement through random rock art

Slowing down can feel unsafe. The work is done but your brain and body want to keep going.

Because productivity and speed mean that you're keeping up.

When slowing down starts to feel like failure, even stillness can feel uncomfortable.

I think, important caveat, there's something to be said about rituality and community being a big part of this, but I've always been religious so of course I feel that way. At least in communication with others even if not in direct interaction. Religion is deeply relational imo

it works both ways, too. you can dwell in your wound and take a bath in it, submerge back into your own self. the private rituality of these gestures has only one goal: a self that keeps reaching to itself in the only place where sincerity still exist

Burnout is real. One minute you’re fine, the next you’re standing in the hallway with one shoe on about to breakdown. We need small daily rituals to give our physiology a real break from the noise.
