Sad news from RoadPeace today.

RoadPeace, the charity supporting people affected by road crashes, is no longer operating.
I asked the Mayor how he will step in to make sure survivors and bereaved families can still get the peer to peer help they need, support that RoadPeace used to provide.

It’s 35 years today since my brother, Richard, was killed in a road crash.

I think of him every day.

I’ve joined RoadPeace to support their work helping bereaved family members and campaigning for a world without road danger.

Every death & serious injury on the roads brings devastating pain & trauma to victims, family, friends, communities & colleagues.

Our powerful new road safety campaign is shaped by real stories of loss - massive thanks to RoadPeace for working with us.

Commenting as Govt launch a road safety strategy.

Every death on our roads is unacceptable. We need a Vision Zero ethos: no deaths or serious injury. Change driving culture, reject speeding, use speed-limiting tech, strengthen sentences, end ‘accident’ language. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

I was wrong when I said an avg of 28 pedestrians are killed by drivers on the pavement each year. It's actually an avg of 42 pedestrians/year.
If you're going to "But cyclists!" at me, then you're proving you're a deluded, evidence-free idiot

I’m so saddened to hear of the closure of RoadPeace for financial reasons.

The charity did so much good — supporting crash victims, standing with bereaved families at their darkest moments, & tirelessly campaigning for safer roads.

I hope one day it can be re-established & continue its vital work.

The criminal justice system needs to step up on cases involving road death and serious injury.

It’s not an “accident”, it’s unaddressed systemic risk.

I’ve campaigned alongside Roadpeace for many years. Their work supporting bereaved families and seriously injured victims of collisions on the road is essential, especially as the numbers of people still being killed and injured each year is devastatingly high.

Today I represented @for-birmingham.bsky.social at the RoadPeace World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims at St Martin’s church.
It was harrowing to hear stories of lives lost and lives forever changed by road violence.
#VisionZero can’t come soon enough.

Inspired today by the courage of the families who spoke, made music and even danced at the Roadpeace service to remember lives lost and broken on our roads.

Met officer DCS Andy Cox described driving as a privilege and said that drivers who are selfish, dangerous or reckless make that choice -/-

My budget related motion passed!

We called for the Mayor to set aside funding in his final budget to provide trauma informed support for bereaved families and survivors of road collisions in the wake of the sudden closure of the charity Roadpeace.

Grateful to Assembly colleagues for support.
MOTION AGREED: The London Assembly has called on the Mayor to make changes to the final draft consolidated budget for 2026-27 to provide more support for survivors of road collisions and their families. www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/w...

This letter from Brigitte Chaudhry on the 125th anniversary of the first British death caused by a motor vehicle driver captures something of the urgency and importance of RoadPeace's role.

It is worth reflecting on that as we absorb the loss of this organisation.

Like many RoadPeace supporters / admirers, I hope that the enormously valuable support the charity provided can be continued in some way.
Their recognition of the emotional trauma rippling out after a death or serious injury on the road, has helped many families through the post crash experience navigating investigation, patchy family liaison and painfully slow judicial processes.

Their experience and support will be much missed.

Just spoken at the Roadpeace event for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

The experiences of bereaved families and injured people must be heard so institutions like the Met and TfL behave with empathy and understanding of the acute trauma and violence involved in road death.
Disappointed that the Met Commissioner does not see the part that a good collision investigation plays in road traffic victims getting justice after a crash.

Today is the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

It was a privilege to join @RoadPeace at St James’s Piccadilly to remember all those who have been killed on London’s roads.

I’d like to thank those who bravely spoke & played music as moving tributes to the dead.

I was at the powerful and desperately sad Roadpeace event for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in London today.

Not *all* elected officials are silent on road danger. 😉

Don't know the specifics of the RoadPeace situation, but it is difficult out there. Costs are going up even for small organisations with low overheads and funding is scarce.
I’m so saddened to hear of the closure of RoadPeace for financial reasons.

RoadPeace has provided incredibly important support and advocacy for road crash victims. Our thoughts go out to the excellent staff and volunteers, as well as victims and families who will be impacted by this announcement. We are absolutely devastated. 💜

I was honoured to attend the
Roadpeace remembrance service yesterday with @sebdance.bsky.social

I’d like to thank everyone who shared their traumatic stories of how they had lost loved ones.

I left galvanised & even more determined to make our streets safer for everyone.

The weekend must have been very difficult for the staff team, volunteers and others associated with the charity, including the trustees who each have themselves had lived experience of the impact of road violence - and Brigitte Chaudry, Founder and President of RoadPeace.

I've always had the utmost respect for Roadpeace and the work that they've been doing over very many years. This will leave a gap :-(
