Last week I discussed Richard Meltzer's great The Aesthetics of Rock, which sort of invented rock criticism, with Kevin Bozelka & Scott Woods, the latter of whom made a zoomcast out of our conversation. We contrasted it some with my own 1997 book, The Accidental Evolution of Rock'n'Roll. Here goes.

Iirc, Mark told me that Tom got in touch with him and asked him to hop aboard ILM in 2001 after seeing a rockcritics-dot-com thread where Mark had referenced a Paul Morley piece Quick Before They Vanish. Rockcritics-dot-com (i.e. Scott Woods) is who put out those Tim Ellison Aesthetics of Rock vids.

I think it might have been 2000 not 2001 but Mark’s memory might be better than mine - definitely true I read his response to a rockcritics survey, I had forgotten the Morley detail. I think Mark is the only person I ever cold emailed like this!

My first record store boss shared a flat with Mike Saunders during their early days. He'd be trying to write reviews for BOMP while Mike rehearsed those songs incessantly. Can you imagine/ lol.
