Central Pennsylvania may have caught a peak of NASA rocket launch in Virginia
NASA launched a sounding rocket carrying student-developed experiments as part of the RockSatX and RockOn programs, and some early birds in central Pennsylvania may have gotten a glimpse of it. NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia launched a suborbital rocket around 5:30 a.m. with more than 50 experiments aboard. According to a map shared by NASA, portions of southcentral Pennsylvania may have been in the clear viewing area of the rocket launch as it flew in a general northwesterly direction. According to a map shared by NASA, portions of southcentral Pennsylvania may have been in the clear viewing area of the rocket launch as it flew in a general northwesterly direction. (NASA) The RockOn teams work in tandem to build experiments on-site while gaining hands-on experience assembling a service board from scratch before launching it into space. Some of the experiments onboard the rocket include instruments to measure weather and radiation in the upper atmosphere, along with space-debris trackers and robot servicing. Temple University in Pennsylvania was listed as a participant with RockSat, while Pennsylvania State in Harrisburg helped with RockOn teams. To watch a replay of the rocket launch, click here.
