The best slapstick romcom slasher flick in history.
Watched Sankarea, it was ok. It can’t decide if it wants to be a dark/depressing story (grooming) or a slapstick lewd harem/romcom. Whiplash is the best way to describe it unfortunately. Split it into 2 separate series/stories and both would be much better on their own.

oh I watched (most of) that one with a friend and got semi-invested! it starts out kind of slapstick silly romcom but then there's a hard pivot into war drama [but still heavy on the rom]
...also we feel that the main romantic lead looks like Jin if you squint and have imagination

okay actually one more note before bed, had venom 2 on in the background and was glad to learn it was still a genuinely hilarious movie and not just fueled by post-covid desperation. it's a slapstick gay romcom disguised as a superhero movie

Part spy games w/ superpowers, part romcom slapstick that is surprisingly quite progressive in queer representation. Crossover genre elements are certainly a mixed bag that nearly make for an unenjoyable watch, but the quick pacing keeps it from straight boredom.

I do enjoy the low budget slapstick of both Holidate and Love Hard, though Christmas romcom is not my genre (I watched a bunch winter 2021 while up with a newborn). Bridget Jones Diary is for the dead week before NYE.

Tonight's viewing. When an irascible banker throws a fur coat over his penthouse balcony it lands on a penniless young woman, setting off series of typically Sturgesian manically escalating circumstances. Jean Arthur is great in this, which combines satire, a good amount of slapstick & some romcom.

Chatrapathi (Rajamouli, 2005). Prabhas demonstrates his star quality here that would but tonally, it's all over the place: it veers from crime drama to romcom to slapstick. And, naturally throws in song and dance numbers. Rajamouli was only 27 when he made this though. Good uneven fun.
