The action plan aims to serve as a social engineering project that regulates a gender regime based on essentialist and religious perceptions of attributed sex, to restore patriarchy and re-design the society based on firm categories of gender dichotomy It aggressively reimposes traditional gender roles in a rigid and conservative manner, while systematically attacking LGBTIQ+ rights under the pretext of fighting ‘global degenderization projects’. Branded as ‘Strengthening the Family,’ this policy orientation reflects a global trend wherein states increasingly rely on women’s underpaid and unpaid labor to sustain both economies and patriarchal social orders.

[Nathasha] was charged under the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act and the Penal Code, for hate speech and what can be paraphrased as wounding and outraging Buddhist religious feelings. Initially denied bail, she was released on bail in June 2023 and it was exactly one year later that all charges against her were dropped. While unlawful arrests and detainments of activists is nothing new in our countries, it felt important to notice, study and understand how the tactics and tools used by fascist and fundamentalist actors are evolving and how these actors work together as an ever expanding ecosystem. Countering informant culture, particularly on the internet, is a delicate dance between holding platforms and other perpetrators accountable while ensuring that doesn’t lead to absolute clampdowns on freedom of expression

Zoë Mercedes Teague: Zoë Mercedes Teague is a multi-faceted bold Queeribbean (queer + Caribbean) woman. She was born, raised and educated in the twin-island state of Antigua & Barbuda and then moved onto Barbados and Jamaica where she pursued her legal studies.  She describes herself as a “Jane of many trades” as she is an accomplished lawyer, creative entrepreneur, gender justice and LGBTQI+ activist, content creator, public speaker, writer, narrative change practitioner, black feminist, philanthropy professional and deeply passionate about the Caribbean region. This multi-dimensionality shines through her work and gives her a unique vantage point in which she approaches every opportunity. A key part of Zoë’s life and work is centered around gratitude. She is the creator of the mantra “life nice. Thank you, more please.” which has grown from mantra to movement, inspiring many others to shift their perspective and see life through a more expansive lens. It is all of this passion, lived experience and dynamism that Zoe brings to her intervention, this panel discussion and to life, more broadly. Patrice Daniel: Patrice Daniel is an Afro-Caribbean feminist and Psychotherapist from Barbados. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counselling from Vermont, USA. Her academic background is rooted in anti-oppression teachings, focusing on dismantling white supremacy and cisheteropatriarchy. Having minored in Sociology and Anthropology, she locates the individual person within the wider socio-cultural context. Patrice’s recent work has included supporting gender-focused research, advising within world health systems, and organising around Global South feminism as a distinct political identity. She has a significant history in social justice, particularly in sexual and reproductive justice and combating gender-based violence. As a feminist and anti-racist practitioner, Patrice creates participatory workshops, guides student research, and challenges regional and international organisations to engage in anti-colonial work. Judith Wedderburn: Ms. Judith Wedderburn is the recently retired Director of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, (FES) Jamaica and the Eastern Caribbean, and for over 30 years, has been an advocate in the field of gender and development in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. Ms. Wedderburn was responsible for the conceptual development of education and training programmes, and the design and implementation of diverse “learning experiences”, which involved the use of conventional as well as participatory methodologies. These programmes were developed in collaboration with a diverse range of partners in civil society, the public sector, trade unions and the academic community, nationally and regionally. Nastassia Rambarran: Nastassia Rambarran (she/her) is a Guyanese Barbadian researcher, activist and writer whose work focuses on LGBTQ+ history and health, human rights, decoloniality, and climate and gender justice.

Cuba is enduring the intensified suffocation of a renewed U.S. embargo, Haiti is facing the worst humanitarian catastrophe in the Western Hemisphere, while Jamaica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti are still rebuilding from the October 2025 Hurricane Melissa.” On the consequences in the Caribbean “The consequences are not abstract.
