Never really thought about it but there is a MapQuest microgeneration (of which I am a member): I remember navigating with the help of printed-out MapQuest directions, but I really truly don't know how people got to new places before that.

But here's the rub: New maps are redrawn every 10 years, and because Wisconsin doesn’t have a permanent nonpartisan redistricting process in place, Wisconsinites have no guarantee that we’ll still have fair maps after the next U.S. Census, especially once I’m no longer governor.

I see those same 2030 redistricting maps that shows us (CA, NY, IL, MA) losing representation to growing sprawly red states unless we build baby build more housing and to then be called a transphobic genocide supporter for my advocacy to reverse such trends would rub me the wrong way too.

If they ever complete the line, it should include "The HS2 Museum of Archaeology" (in Leeds, just to rub it in) with maps linked to the finds, and plaques at significant find sites.

I like the evidence of human hands coloring it, but my middle school Geography teacher taught us to put a tissue over our finger and gently rub in circles to blend it when we were coloring in our maps if you want a smoother appearance.

I still wish I’d kept the 62 pages of mind maps with tiny scribbled pencil that became my PhD. But I had to rub it out as I went along, to keep track of where I had got to;)

How crank/not-crank maps onto low trust voters is complicated I think, but the rub with what you're positing is....that won't hurt regardless!!

PSA: ChatGPT 4o can make simple maps like this. I first made a clean site map using rub-on Letraset, circa 1999 or so. I spent the 2000s fighting with evil ESRI software. Then, thankfully, came R in the 2010s. This map took 20 seconds, a 99% time saving from former tech.

If only our citizens had those choices PD, i suspect the machining's of our state powers are already redrawing their maps. I think the majority of the actual people of the world would just rub along fine if they didn't have leaders. Its the leaders who promote division.

I know I've seen both in college classrooms (miraculously there are still some classrooms on my campus that have maps). The problem is (as you well know) that any time you try to represent a round thing as a flat thing you're going to get distortion. How and where we distort things is the rub.

I can't figure out why, and I've been trying to rub my two brain cells together since I've never heard of that place before in my life as far as I know?
