Ghosts of Ryolite

The town sprang up almost overnight, on visions of striking paydirt and riches.
Now all that remains are crumbling ruins, and the ghosts of shattered dreams.

In the forefront, a black dog facing away from the camera. She is facing a creek bed. The creek is funneled through a corridor in a slab of what looks like algea covered ryolite. Behind it, forest.

This batch of rocks was collected from Eastern Washington over the summer. I don't know what all of these stones are. Many of them seem to have a lot of quartz. Others seem to be ryolite or andestite. But all of them are very nice. Hopefully they'll polish well.

A wide collection of various stones on a very green towel illuminated by an artificial light because it is incredibly dark and stormy outside today.. A close up some of the stones. They have white bands, green colors, some are speckled. The one at the very far right has a very interesting coppery sheen.

2 rare minerals collected for their looks

Durangite is found in veins in ryolite & in pegmatite dikes through granite

Wavellite forms in fractures in aluminous metamorphic rock, in hydrothermal regions & in phosphate rock deposits. It gets the art vote for its use in cabochons & jewelry

A sample of red crystalline durangite on a white stand against a grey background from the Thomas Range, Juab County, Utah, USA via Mindat.org An image of a Wavellite cabochon in a gold setting against a white background. There’s a cut stone at the top. The Wavellite is various shades of yellow through green and greenish white. “This wavellite cabochon is of high quality. Some of the spheres were sliced open to show the radiating pattern, while others were left untouched. Wrapped in gold-plated wires, the cabochon weighs 150 ct, with a blue apatite mounted at the top. Today's ROTD ⚒️ 🧪 is Galaxy Ryolite or Que Sera.

Can be found in Brazil and Mexico currently.

As a Rhyolite, it is a perfect blend of feldspar, magnetite, iron, calcite, Leucozone, Kaolinite, and blue quartz.
Sometimes, cristobalite eyes starkly resemble stars and planets.
The oval sits on a plane of weed. It is dark colored on the edges, but as you examine more closely, it looks like a 3d topographical map of a land mass and some bodies of water. That kaolinite is shaded pink, and there are pools of blue quartz dotting the surface. There is a silver square around one of the kaolinite pieces, which is feldspar. The reverse side truly looks like a map, my brain fills in those kaolinite spaces with roads and towns The blue quartz just pops out at the top and bottom of the "Map" This is the side of the piece with a clear window of blue quartz in the abstract picture that looks like a map. This is the reverse of the previous side shot, only to highlight the lil blue butterfly in the center.

Ryolite, trachyte, tuf volcanique 😍

Established in 1905, by 1907, Rhyolite had reached a population of about 10,000 and supported 45 saloons, an opera house, a slaughterhouse, two railroad depots, and dozens of businesses. Read about Rhyolite, Nevada – Little More Than a Memory www.legendsofamerica.com/nv-rhyolite/

ryolite too? so it's the microcrystaline aspect that causes magma to do this on cooling?
