#Berkeley Rent Board took positions on more state laws last night:
AB282 allows prioritizing Section 8 applicants.
AB736/SB417 funds affordable housing.
SB36 enforces post-disaster price gouging bans.
SB634 bans local laws prohibiting help those who are homeless.
AB893 & SB79 zones for more housing.
Last night, the #Berkeley Rent Board voted to take positions on additional California state legislation on housing and tenant rights.

Along with other bills we have taken position on, these proposed state laws will help us meet our goal of making housing more affordable.

#SB634 is a bill that would prevent California cities from criminalizing helping our homeless neighbors survive. Sadly, it's needed, because Fremont and El Cajon have been doing just that, and the practice could spread. Tell your Assembly member to support SB634!

If you're in the eastern half of SF and represented by Matt Haney like me, I looked up SB634 and he's already a co-author! So rather than fill out the letter as-is, I emailed him a thank-you.

Jails and tickets won't end homelessness.
It ends with housing.
It ends with supportive services.
It ends with outreach.

That’s what SB 634 is about. #SB634 @CAGovernor @CalMatters

Opinion |Cities that ban or criminalize homeless services worsen California’s crisis
A bill on the governor’s desk would stop cities from chasing away supportive services and workers who help unhoused people survive the streets.

SB 634 makes it clear: cities cant block life-saving outreach & services for people experiencing homelessness. Without services + housing, there is no real path forward. #SB634 #EndHomelessness @cagovernornewsom.bsky.social
