#SB79
So has al-Sharaa SB79'd the whole of Syria yet

being against SB79 should be an automatic disqualification

like...how can you be against dense housing around transit??? that's so dumb

but i guess she has the same brain as tim gaspar and they only care about single family homes.

Again, how is that an argument in favor of local control and against something like SB79?

Glad to see the state coming after Oceanside for its obvious bad faith interpretation of SB79. We need more housing near transit in north county
www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2026/10/30/o...
Oceanside tried to get out of SB 79. State now says the city is skirting controversial new housing law.
A legal and regulatory fight continues to grow over how the San Diego region’s leaders are implementing new rules for what housing can be built near transit stops.

Burbank should be working with organizations like LA Metro, not against them, to ensure we keep local control and fit the character of the community while building much-needed housing.

Sorry, Sam, but you're wrong about Ben Allen. He was mediocre on housing in the CA legislature, abstaining from voting for SB79 (he was present for the vote). Overall, he's a mainstream right-leaning Democrat, and not a reliable supporter of Wiener's. Vote for Jane Kim for Insurance Commissioner.

That's what you got from my reply? I was making an unscientific observation that the young generations are even worse, in that they grew up under Reagan, so they don't know any better. They need to reduce gdp, not punish transit by mandating housing around it, for example (SB79).

San Bernardino county is only 3 passenger rail stations away from being subject to SB79.

SB79 is going to ruin the lives of these people in Menlo Park and Atherton
October 20, 2026 at 9:48 PM
Oh yeah, I HCD guidance saying Amtrak long distance stations dont count is clearly an incorrect reading of the text. A plain reading says San Bernardino has 16 stations, and should be subject to SB79.

Yes on 40, no on 41+42 in CA. Also yes on RTM for public transit in the bay area. If they fail, I'm blaming SB79, because voters know that grow baby grow SB79 makes public transit and services more expensive than they would otherwise be.

Went to check if an old favorite restaurant of mine is still open…and of course stumbled into a story about Westside homeowners panicking that a bus stop might trigger high-density housing. palisadesnews.com/wolfgang-puc...
Wolfgang Puck is Building a Two-Story Restaurant in Pacific Palisades. Why Are Some Locals Worried? - Palisades News
Wolfgang Puck’s planned restaurant replacing Gladstone’s Malibu has drawn community concerns that a new bus stop could trigger state housing density rules under SB79 in a high fire risk area.

Thank you! Do you know, if I open (or re-open in this case) a station, then SB79 applies to it? SB79 isn't a one-time snapshot, right?

I assume not because one of the main arguments against it (at least here in LA) was that having SB79 in place would/could actually disincentivize building new transit…obviously, not a good faith argument but one that was trotted out frequently

Genuine question: is this an attempt to prevent SB79 in Atherton?

The first SB79 proposals in the LA area were all in Santa Monica.

Metro board Exec Mgmt Cmte meeting: now on state/federal legislative report. Federal issues: continuing resolution, grants (Vermont BRT, 71 Freeway widening). State: extended bus lane camera enforcement, and SB79 reform (prevent transit opposition)

Also, the DSA has historically aligned itself with neighborhood control, which is very grassroots, but also the chief tool in the NIMBY toolkit. That might be changing, as we've seen with Mamadani in NYC, and now Raman. Simple reality is: You can't lower housing costs without more housing.
October 16, 2026 at 2:54 PM
lol yeah like i wish i wasn't right when i thought to myself "we have no more use for this guy now that SB79 and prop 50 have passed" but it was unfortunately prescient

What would work better than SB79? That is, what would do Somme good and not mate matters worse? Free WiFi on the catenary wires.

Laughing my ass off at this absurd anti-SB79 NIMBY display board seen at a San Mateo HOA candidate forum tonight

LA's system is around 30% through building the most ambitious expansions in the country. SB79 and K North will make for a very different graph in 10 years
October 8, 2026 at 4:58 PM
I agree SB79 will help a lot especially at stations like Heritage Sq where it’s planned right next door.

K Line North isn’t planned until 2047 and K Line South might not even happen until afterwards because of changing the route.

raman directing city departments to speed up housing permitting, follow SB79, accelerate metro projects, and implement HLA bus and bike lanes is a huge deal.

though i agree she can push local politics in the right direction and therefore the state
