Remember SB8, when they functionally overturned Roe on the shadow docket?

Are these guys going to SB8 medication abortion and just not act on the application before 5 PM ET???

This is lawless. It is, however, not much different than what the SCOTUS far-right majority did when it allowed Texas's SB8 vigilante abortion law to go into effect in 2021 despite it clearly being unconstitutional under Roe/Casey.
BREAKING: SCOTUS will hear a case over whether it should overrule Humphrey's Executor — in a shadow docket order that also allows Trump's firing of Rebecca Slaughter as an FTC commissioner to take effect while the appeal is considered, which should not be allowed under Humphrey's Executor.

there are government-toppling ramifications of sb8 everywhere for those with eyes to see
TX Judge O'Connor is going to war with RI Judge McElroy over DOJ subpoenas for trans kids' medical records.

She quashed the subpoenas. He orders the RI hospital to comply, and orders them not to seek relief in any venue but NDTX, Fifth Circuit, or SCOTUS.

i’m getting very strong “the SB8 case is NOT about roe v wade, it’s about who has standing and who is the proper defendant” vibes from this
Lots of confusion out there about what Scotus will consider on birthright citizenship. It's actually pretty clear: They are NOT ruling on the legality of Trump's EO, though the subject will surely come up and the decision will determine whether the restrictions go into partial effect right away. 1/3

According to ProPublica, dozens more pregnant and postpartum women have died in Texas hospitals since abortion bans were implemented, compared with maternal deaths in the state immediately before the pandemic.
Report: Sepsis, maternal deaths surged in Texas following abortion bans
A new ProPublica analysis finds a 50 percent increase in life-threatening infections since SB8 took effect in 2021.

The supreme court judges do not admit that they are part of the government. That was the whole conceit behind Texas SB8.
like this is absurd, get over yourselves

Lauren Miller, who was a plaintiff in the lawsuit over SB8, testified against SB31 in the TX Senate last week.

We should be listening to women and the advocates who work so hard to help women. Please contact your legislators. #txlege

I hope by now everyone gets that all struggles are intertwined, but if you had any doubt—

this bounty hunter model is based off of Texas’ SB8, which was the death knell for Roe—

& allowed ppl to pull these same vigilante lawsuits against anyone assisting in someone getting abortion care.
Kansas just passed a monstrous bill enabling criminal penalties and vigilante lawsuits for trans people using the bathroom according to their gender identity and requires them to surrender their current drivers licenses and birth certificates if it does not match their sex assigned at birth.

Illinois would benefit greatly from a true safe storage law that requires all firearms to be securely locked up when not in use. SB8 is not that bill. SB8 would not even apply to the 70% of Illinois households that don't have minor children. #needsimprovement 😐

9/1/21: SCOTUS denies a request to block TX’s vigilante abortion ban.

9/3/21: Josseli Barnica has a miscarriage; doctors don’t treat her because of SB8.

9/7/21: Josseli is rushed back to the hospital after losing huge quantities of blood. She dies there.

The Supreme Court killed Josseli Barnica.
And this happened in 2021, about 10 months before Roe was overturned—but after Texas’ SB8, the “heartbeat” bill, had gone into effect.

When the Supreme Court let that law stand, it sent the signal that Roe’s days were numbered.
Doctors said it was “inevitable” that Josseli Barnica would miscarry.

Yet they waited 40 hours for the fetal heartbeat to stop.

She died of an infection 3 days later.

There was an increase in maternal morbidity in patients with previable PPROM following SB8 in TX, especially regarding sepsis #SMFM2025

That would be the same Jonathan Mitchell who designed SB8, the TX abortion bounty law. He's also representing the TX man suing three women for helping his ex-wife get an abortion.
Update: Jonathan Mitchell tells me he is now representing Donald Trump in both of the Fourteenth Amendment petitions at SCOTUS. (He wasn’t on the initial cert petition filed by Trump.)
NEWS: Jonathan Mitchell—former Texas SG—is representing Donald Trump in the SCOTUS petition brought by the Colorado Republican Party. Not immediately clear to me how this fits with his own petition, as Mitchell is not one of the lawyers listed on that petition. www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/23...

Where are the medical societies?
Where is the uproar from doctors?

Women of Texas once again had to show up in Austin to fight against another bill about abortion. This one is called "The Life of the Mother", but women who have seen the horrors SB8 has forced upon pregnancy showed up to testify against #HB44

Listen to them. #txlege

👇🏾 my head went to SB8 too, like, Supreme Court shadow docket blessing of a state blatantly, flagrantly violating the rights of their residents and federal law
This is a disturbing shadow docket decision, up there with the 2021 shadow docket decision allowing Texas’s S.B. 8 vigilante abortion law to go into effect despite Roe.

Hospitals have been complying in advance since SB8 and Dobbs. Hospitals have been letting women die.
“Defending” women while banning abortion, limiting recourse for pregnancy discrimination, engaging in a campaign to deport families, seeking to revoke birthright citizenship. Don’t be deputized to enact their cruelty.

Sept 1, 2021, SCOTUS via shadow docket declined to ban SB8, TX’ unconstitutional abortion ban.

It was clear then that they would undo Roe and any other judicial president that suited their craven agenda.

Black & Brown communities are harmed first in every decision.

The system works by design.

Notably, Barnica died in September 2021—months before the June 2022 Dobbs decision. She was killed by SB8, Texas’ pre-Dobbs 6-week ban, which the Supreme Court allowed to go into effect on September 1, 2021. Barnica started miscarrying on September 2.

As @jessicafortexas.bsky.social points out, this bill does nothing to protect women. In fact, it opens up women to extremely invasive “investigations” about their sex.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want the government forcing genital checks on women before going to the bathroom. #SB8 #txlege

If politicians keep trying to dehumanize & kill #women..

guess what happens to politicians for deliberately trying to find clever ways to dehumanize & kill our wives, our daughters, our moms, girlfriends, nieces, aunts, friends?

or kill any other #women?
Guess.
