The training is there, it's just hard to find. And I think it's about how well your sendco can adapt the training for your specific children. If that makes sense...

One thing I notice weekly as SENDCo is that the opinion of almost *any* other professional carries massive weight with the LA. Even ones with zero professional qualifications. But the opinion of the SENDCo at a child's school counts for absolutely zilcho.

I think that is your (my) job and also the SENDco. I agree entirely, but that is where the role of the SENDco is vital as they should be able to identify any specific needs the child has and be able to source training. Often teachers and TAs just know they need help, I see it as my job to find it.

A great SENDCo can transform children’s & their families’ lives. Quite frankly they are 100% gold plated edu-diamonds and their deep knowledge & compassionate understanding twinned with a relentless belief in what is possible is powerful & inspirational. They are true heroes. 🙏🏻

More advice for those making SEND decisions:
- a national, understood definition of what SEND is
- SENDco need more, clearer training
- one format for all paperwork, used nationally by all schools
- LAs stop outsourcing places, using the money saved to invest in new provision

Also, when will occur to anyone at the DfE that sometimes the HT is also the DSL and/or SENDCo , who already manages the school office before 9.00 ? Schools come in all shapes and sizes .

My son's SENDCO was the first person to suggest home ed. She knew mainstream wasn't right and likely knew that LA services were in a state. Of course, teacher quality is often excellent, but they're not qualified to educate everyone.
