Pls see this Thread by @sakeriver.bsky.social I first learned of this Awful part of modern U.S. history during undergrad studies at SFStateU in the ‘80s. Big shock: I’m an SF native but we didn’t learn this in HS! My SFState Ethnic Studies professor was Jim Hirabayashi (RIP) If You Know, You Know👇🏾
This is a photograph of my great uncle, Jim Ida, in 1942. The photograph was taken by Dorothea Lange as part of her documentation of the Japanese American incarceration. He is sitting with his family’s bags, waiting to be taken to an internment camp. (Tanforan, I believe.) He was 17.

Yep. All the shocking events in my hometown and nationwide during my childhood + youth inspired me to become a Journalist. True Story: while in J-School at SFStateU in the late ‘80s, I was hired by TIM REITERMAN at the SFExaminer to cover campus news. Who is he? An editor who had survived JONESTOWN🫡
