Islamabad, June 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) People in Hyderabad city of Pakistan's Sindh province have not been receiving gas supply during the nine-hour daily schedule announced by the gas utility, sparking concern among residents, especially women, who are struggling to manage household work amid scorching heat, local media reported on Monday. As per Sui Southern Gas Company's (SSGC) schedule, gas should be supplied for three hours each in the morning, afternoon and night. However, residents from several areas of Hyderabad have said that the gas utility company has not been able to supply gas during this limited schedule, Pakistan-based daily The Express Tribune reported.

QUETTA: Gas supply to several towns and cities in Balochistan was disrupted on Thursday after unidentified individuals blew up a main gas pipeline in the Bolan area, damaging the 18-inch-diameter line and forcing the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to suspend supplies to a number of areas. According to the gas utility, the explosion took place near Gorkat in Bolan, where unidentified individuals allegedly planted explosives underneath the pipeline and detonated them using a remote-controlled device. The blast badly damaged the 18-inch gas pipeline, causing flames and thick clouds of smoke to rise from the affected section. The damaged pipeline is located in the Bolan riverbed area near the KMP-246 Valve Assembly, around 700 to 800 metres from the main Quetta-Sibi Road, according to SSGC. Following the explosion, gas supplies were suspended to Kolpur, Mach, Mastung, Kalat, Pishin and Ziarat, as well as several areas of Quetta. SSGC said that consumers in the affected areas could experience low gas pressure or a complete suspension of supply until the damaged pipeline is repaired. The gas utility clarified that gas supply to Quetta has not been completely halted, as the provincial capital is also being supplied through a separate 12-inch-diameter pipeline. SSGC spokesperson said the company’s teams had been prepared to travel to the affected site and begin repair work. However, personnel would only be dispatched after receiving the required security clearance because of the security situation in the area. The company said its management was continuously monitoring the situation and that repair work would begin as soon as security clearance was granted. SSGC added that efforts would be made to restore gas supplies to the affected areas as quickly as possible after the damaged section of the pipeline was repaired. The latest incident comes amid a series of attacks on gas infrastructure in Balochistan in recent months. In May, gas supplies to a large area of the province were disrupted after unidentified armed men blew up a gas pipeline in Dera Bugti. Gas supplies to Sohbatpur district in Nasirabad division were also suspended that month following another attack on a pipeline. A similar incident was reported in March when unidentified armed men targeted and blew up a main gas pipeline in the Western Bypass area of Quetta. Repeated attacks on gas infrastructure have disrupted supplies to large parts of Balochistan and created additional challenges for the gas utility in maintaining uninterrupted services, particularly in areas where security concerns delay access to damaged installations. Authorities have yet to identify those responsible for the latest attack, and no group has been named by officials in connection with the blast. The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) confirmed the incident and said that the 18-inch wide gas pipeline was badly damaged, disrupting the supply. A statement by its spokesperson said that the explosion occurred at the KMP-246 Valve Assembly in the Bolan riverbed area near Gorkat, around 700 to 800 metres from the main Quetta-Sibi Road. It said that unknown people planted explosives under the pipeline in the riverbed and detonated it with a remote control. The company said the gas supply was suspended to Kolpur, Mach, Mastung, Kalat, Pishin, Ziarat and many parts of Quetta and added that consumers may face reduced gas pressure or supply. Local sources said unidentified individuals allegedly targeted the main valve of the gas pipeline with explosives in the Daraz Bent area of Bolan. Following the explosion, flames and smoke were seen rising from the damaged pipeline. SSGC said that teams were ready to initiate repair work, but they were waiting for security clearance before going to the affected area. The gas utility said its management was closely monitoring the situation and working to restore supplies as soon as possible. The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) said on Sunday that complaints of a suspected gas leak near Karachi’s Abul Hasan Isphahani Road since the previous night were due to the testing of odourisation plants during the commissioning of a new pipeline. While gas is often thought to have a distinctive smell, it is in fact odourless. Gas suppliers deliberately add odorants to the gas as a safety measure to alert consumers to potentially life-threatening leaks. In a media alert issued on Sunday, the SSGC said that odourants used to give gas its distinctive smell were added in larger quantities for testing purposes. This resulted in a stronger-than-usual smell, prompting reports of a gas leak from various parts of Karachi. “The SSGC administration wishes to make it clear that all system pressures are normal and that no gas leak of any kind has been reported,” the statement said. “The smell is solely due to the relatively larger quantity of odourants added to the gas during the testing of the odourisation plants.” The company requested its customers to remain calm and continue their regular activities. Gas leaks can be life-threatening, causing explosions and fires as well as death by suffocation. In January, three women suffocated to death, while another fainted in a gas leak incident in an apartment in Rawalpindi’s Bahria Town Phase VII.
