Bit drunk post the “Royal Navy volunteer” visit so history geeky. but the @SSGreatBritain was a fantastic visit today. One of the best museums I’ve been to in the Uk.
Really hits home for me the difference a bit of money makes. I know it’s difficult but was superb

#SSGreatBritain was launched on #ThisDayInHistory in 1843. #IsambardKingdomBrunel designed her to be a marvel: The largest afloat, she was the first #steamship with both an iron hull and screw propulsion, and was the first iron steamer to cross the Atlantic. She is not a museum.

The comparison may directly be the #CuttySark but #SSGreatBritain languished for 33 years awaiting a private benefactor to save her in 1970.

The SS Gt Eastern struggled by comparison and was broken up (location of the famous Brunel image).
