#Decarbonisation

Good to see this. Most of the energy podcasts in my feed are not really engaging at all with the climate impact of data centres. It takes @ketanjoshi.co to spell out the very simple fact that clean energy tech only supports decarbonisation if it’s displacing fossil fuels.
Today on Volts: most of cleantech world seems to have accommodated itself to giant AI data centers, but @ketanjoshi.co is having none of it. He's been a relentless critic, tracking the hyperscalers' broken climate promises, rising emissions, & abysmal community relations. We get into all of it.

What's really alarming in the short term is that our political leaders are not just ignoring the urgent need for rapid decarbonisation but are reversing climate action to meet the demands of vested interests (such as the road construction lobby).

Good to see Bristol’s continued progress on decarbonisation highlighted. 👏

As set out in Bristol City Council’s Environmental Performance Report, we’re proud of the role Bristol City Leap is playing in supporting the city’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions. 👇

Really? I don't recall a time when the LNP have backed conservation of their own free will.

Industrial decarbonisation = electrification, surely?

Funding cuts for CCS and hydrogen raise questions over what government will do instead to deliver industrial decarbonisation at scale.

Agree and the end goal is to eliminate tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions completely from road transport and;

1️⃣ Improve the air quality and public health
2️⃣ Decarbonisation and climate protection
3️⃣ Integration with #RenewableEnergy

Net-zero #emissions by 2050 or earlier.

This is bullshit.
Electricity is going from Scotland south of the border partly because gas is burnt in homes and petrol/diesel burnt in cars.

The Scottish government should be using any income on electrification.

SNP seem to be following Labours roll back of decarbonisation policies.

"Intense pastoral longing makes me wary, especially when it’s pressed into an attack on both decarbonisation and industry. There is no ideal Highland past. Look behind the picturesque wildness and you’ll find long-standing patterns of extractivism."
Prompted by Kapka Kassabova’s Borrowed Land, I wrote about the politics of renewable energy and the older industrial history of the Scottish Highlands.

Press Release: The industrial livestock lobby is pushing a dangerous accounting trick to shirk its fair share. Changing the metrics to hide real emissions isn’t climate action – it’s shifting the bill for massive pollution onto those least responsible for it.

The report also highlights a risk of governments using these paper savings in agriculture to justify slower decarbonisation in heavy-polluting fossil fuel sectors.
