I also feel like the move to limited series dominated the early 1980s. Maybe that’s a “short-lived series” (SVTU, SSoSV, Inhumans, etc.) by another name, but it felt different.

This was the only issue of SSOSV that I had during their run, and it’s my first experience with the Earth-3 villains. I have been an Earth-3 fan ever since. ❤️

Although this one didn't drop in the summer months, it was no less a special "big book" to me. SSOSV was crossing over into other titles (this is DC Special Series 6), so could be tough to track down. Happy to have bought this at Weiner's Grocery, a small corner store in town.

Unfortunately, young Geoff Johns read this and decided this seemingly innocent Answer Man response was a dare which leads to the Infinite Crisis nonsense involving the SSoSV and Freedom Fighters.

I was such a fan of SSoSV and Freedom Fighters - the latter issues weren't as good as those earlier the run (and the art had slipped). That Superman Family cover is one of Adams' best... and although it doesn't need to be restated, Dollar Comics were AWESOME

The SSOSV & FF are two of my all-time favorite "lost" series of the 70s. Great stuff!

SSoSV was so much *fun* - like JLI a decade later, it had the vibe of an office-comedy with supervillains.
The newstand distribution model was what was imploding. Fortunately, the doors to new ideas could open with comic book shops ... eventually

Issue 5 of SSOSV had my first encounter with Elongated Man. I wish he did some stretching or nose twitching or sleuthing. It took me 50 years to realize who he was
