One more: EXO in Montreal, prev. STCUM/CTCUM/AMT. Mind-numbingly bland.

Damian here.

Day 3 in Montreal and today I'm filming EXO Trains for future TT content.

These are photos I took on the St Jerome line.

More Montreal transit history:

In the mid-90s, the STCUM (now STM) had a prototype bus that ran on hydrogen-methane fuel.

It was a modified GM Classic with a weird gigantic hump on its roof and had a very noticeable purple scheme inside and out.

Est-ce qu'elle dit encore la STCUQ au lieu du RTC? Y en a encore ici à Montréal qui appellent la STM la STCUM.

And the Bryan Adams theme surges orchestrally!

I suddenly feel a deep fear my STCUM pass has expired.

The only better Canadian acronym IMO was “Société de transport de la communauté urbaine de Montréal” : STCUM.

Cuz if you think we didn’t do invocations and appeals to St Cum to bring the next bus sooner, you are thinking incorrectly.

There's still some STCUM signage around, too. Like time travelling every time I see it.

Vous les reconnaissez?
Vers 1971, les joueurs du Canadien de Montréal faisaient la navette entre le Forum et l’Auditorium de Verdun dans un autobus de la STCUM (maintenant STM)

I tell people all the time that the STCUM of my childhood was incredible and that austerity-era union-hating STM (aided of course by provincial governments of all colours) is slowly destroying itself.
How it started -> how it's going

Number of passages on weekdays on Montréal's STM lines 55 and 80+535/435/480 in 2010, 2013 (network 10 minutes max) and 2025.

It's brutal.

Now I know why I've stopped riding bus 80 and why I take the 55 much less...

STCUM sounds like some obscure 2000s internet lingo that never caught on outside of a small circle of kids who wouldn't let it die.

Seems a popular set of tones!

Doesn't sound like the name, these guys were in the late 80s, maybe early 90s.

I think the song was something like Ballad of the STCUM.

Hard same, but here in Montreal. It burned into my brain so much I wrote a GN about it. We worked hard to be period-correct on all the early-2000s train interiors and station designs, and we still got pedantic letters from readers pointing out things we'd missed #trainguys

LB: I'm never not going to wonder whether STM got rid of their old name because somebody whispered something in their ear about it

I was going through some old files and came across a few old bus passes from back when we used to have actual card designs to differentiate between the months since it was all done visually. No mag strips or chips or NFC tech, just plastic. 1/3 #stm #montreal #stcum #publictransit

#GoHabsGo is now allowed on STCUM buses.
It's considered part of Québec's heritage, not "English".
So, the stupid OLFQ decision has been nullified.

The Montreal transit authority used to be called “Société de transport de la Communauté urbaine” and the official acronym was “STCUM” and if you don’t think we all called it Saint Cum, I feel like you don’t know me at all.
