And of equal importance, to this #SacklerScicomm audience, is that these hierarchies of credibility create assumptions about what constitutes expertise, status, “evidence”... or, you know, who is chosen to speak on stage.

“Cui bono?” Who benefits?
Perhaps the single most important question at #sacklerscicomm. May we keep asking it.

In #SacklerSciComm discussion of scientific misconduct, press narratives, & reputation management, remember that journalists play an essential watchdog role.

Sure, science is self-correcting... in the long run. External criticism *is both valid & necessary* for engaged science

Full disclosure: I am an unabashed @laurahelmuth fan. In a training she once joined me for, she talked about incandescent rage re: science misconduct & moral courage needed to confront it. Everybody needs heroes. She’s one of mine #SacklerSciComm

This phrase comes from our racist legacy of knowledge suppression & the struggle of enslaved people. It’s a powerful idea and a beatiful phrase, even more so in context.

May it be a touchstone & reminder for #SacklerSciComm that science communication is a social justice issue.
