#Safety-Engineered
Other countries have social safety nets. The US has women. Women whose paid and unpaid labor are toggled up or down depending on the whims of the men who engineered and profiteered our DIY society.
Roughly half a million women in the US exited the workforce in 2025, and 42% of those who voluntarily left cited their caregiving responsibilities as the main reason, according to a recent survey from Catalyst.

42% of women are leaving the workforce over lack of caregiver support
In a tight employment market, employers that offer less flexibility risk losing working caregivers, according to a Catalyst report.

North American roundabouts are engineered to maximize car speed. Dutch roundabouts are engineered to maximize human safety.

When you physically prioritize pedestrians and people on bikes, you naturally calm traffic and make the street work for everyone.
A typical Dutch urban roundabout, with priority for pedestrians and cyclists on every arm.

Simple design choices like this keep people safe and naturally slow down motor traffic.

This picture of @yohan555.bsky.social #tapingmadness reminds me of a fish dangling from a fisherman's hook but he's entirely suspended by (special) duct tape & PVC tape in this challenging position. Thank you for trusting me!
NB We engineered this with a safety factor of >10:1. Play safely!

To dictate safe behavior, we use "speed tables", not speed bumps. It’s an engineered 3-phase design with:

✅ Steep approach ramp
✅ Extended plateau
✅ Departure ramp

This wide footprint forces a sustained speed reduction rather than a brief jolt, better securing the safety of the crosswalk.

I am pleased to see the suggestion that Silicon Valley take lessons from other industries.

The alignment movement is wrongheaded. It's correct that safety should be engineered in, but it's doing that wrong.

look it's very simple the miasma was engineered in a chinese miasma lab and they released it because they were forced to use incorrect safety measures designed to contain "germs" by wokeness

Although this appears to be a safety helmet it is actually quite unsafe, as it has been engineered to prevent Mr. Pence from perceiving women wearing pants

For a long time I've considered this a very 1980s accident because car safety has improved SO MUCH. Airbags are amazing. Cars are engineered to protect the passenger compartment.

TSA agents are paid peanuts, they’re public facing while performing “safety” screenings that they know are both baloney and irritating. The job is engineered to make every agent miserable and spiteful.

E-bikes are specifically engineered to handle high torques, heavy loads, and sustained speeds. Bolting a 32 km/h drive onto a standard bike introduces physical forces the frame and braking system were never designed to survive. It's a massive safety hazard.

Joe Kent resigns, Tucker Carlson hands him a megaphone, and the Trump hate machine keeps doing what it was built to do: turn extremist‑aligned figures into political martyrs. This isn’t an accident, it’s the pipeline Trump engineered.

Trump ugly bill will be the law of the land- a tax system that will bring in far less govt revenue & no economic growth -but give large savings to the rich.

The bill slashes the social safety net that will cause millions to lose health insurance &food benefits

And that's just the Hierarchy of Controls aspect. There are many other tools in a comprehensive safety approach. It's not simple nor simplistic, but an engineered systems approach to safety, much as has been successfully applied for corporate safety, airline safety, nuclear safety, and so forth.

I describe myself as a trans-masc autistic person born in New England (the cranky part, sub-Quebec/above Boston), raised by two software engineers, one of which being a Jewish man from New Jersey.

Fate engineered me to be a human porcupine.

This is the core of my argument in Holding It Together. The billionaires who engineered our DIY society have (with help from cronies in politics, media, etc) sold us myths to delude us into thinking we don't need a social safety net and divide us so we don't come together to demand that support. 1/
We struggle to unite as a nation because they're too good at keeping us divided. We are drowning in disinformation because they control all of it.

They have successfully created imaginary villains for us to fight...each other.

I have disabled kids, piles of debt, and no meaningful social safety net. We are trapped in a system deliberately engineered to prevent us from overthrowing it.

Starfleet Corps of Engineers know that starship captains are gonna put their ships through the most impossible, incredible, and downright dumb scenarios. So, the ships are over-engineered for safety and the listed tolerances are lowballed guidelines. The actual tolerances are way higher.
Question: What's everybody's most niche, harmless headcanon about their favs? Two of mine are that Akira learned how to fish from his aunt and that Akechi's favorite fonts for English must be serif fonts
