If you're not into the mons then there's literally no reason to play it. They don't do nearly enough to make the French setting really sing, the villain team is terrible, the interface is stuck in 1997, the towns are somehow samier than the first games, and! Yeah not great!

-- a lil bit more in-depth than I'd liked... I'm not sure how to feel replacing the XIII party (each one with their own flavour, and you were encouraged to use them all) with 2 characters that kinda feel samier... This is probably what let me down the most tbh, even if the combat is snappier :( --
