#Sanewashing
I'd've hope TIME would point out that his answers aren't answers at all; they're just mouth music, babbling he hopes the interviewer will accept as appropriate responses.

But I'm looking at the subhead, and it could be describing just about any POTUS except Trump 2.0.

STOP SANEWASHING THE PSYCHO!

"while the interviewers do their best to provide structure to his random brain firings"

Pretty good definition of sanewashing. It's been going on for nearly a decade now.

See also what I wrote for CJR on liberal anger at The Times. It rises unabated. www.cjr.org/analysis/lib...
Why Are Liberals Infuriated with the Media?
From sanewashing to false equivalence, many readers have had it with their favorite news publications. Editors would do well to listen.

Sanewashing genocide by ( fill in blank ) descendants of said victims should be a DSM diagnosis.

Suggestion to the press:
♦️Stop sanewashing him. If you insist on granting him interviews (and there's no reason you should-- his words are completely unrelated to actual policy), just run the unedited transcript. In full. With no editorial comment.
I recommend people read this to get a sense of the president's grave cognitive impairment. Trump is either unwilling or unable (or maybe both) to answer the questions he's actually asked, so he just rants and raves while the interviewers do their best to provide structure to his random brain firings

You can help improve our legacy media, whose consistent sanewashing of authoritarian actions of the Trump administration add to the threats to our democracy. Sign the letter from the Media and Democracy project.

I'm sure it's deteriorating, but so much energy has been spent sanewashing him that the whiplash is giing to be all the more severe when they can't manage it anymore.

Must say, you'd think stenography and transcription are the same, but stenography, in the case of Trump, now reads like concerted sanewashing.

Anyway, this reads like he's a fucking madman.

Does this coverage mean the sanewashing is about to end?
Lord, the man's nuts.
TIME: You said you might annihilate Iran

TRUMP: Yeah, I would do that. It's possible.

TIME: How can the president of peace be calling for annihilation of an entire people?

TRUMP: Bc by annihilating Iran, we've created peace in the world. With Iran, I don't think you could ever have peace.

But guys this doesn’t have the @nytimes.com sanewashing of ”we‘ll tell you what he meant to say because we know him so well” interpretation (except for Epstein, Natalie and other scandals we refused to break)

Oh it's another sanewashing day at @nytimes.com

Biden's plan was early, proactive, detailed, and concrete. It was built through painstaking consensus with the leaders of the industry. While it didn't have legal teeth to it yet, the will was there and it was a great first step. This is A Nothing.
Trump’s Voluntary A.I. Policing Echoes What Biden Did. But Is It Enough Today?
President Trump’s plan to let A.I. companies police themselves comes amid mounting examples that they are failing to put safeguards on the technology.

The worst part is the sanewashing. The irrationality and depravity of it all is rarely identified. It's horse-race, both-sides garbage.

Yup. And this is not one of those cases where bad hed but good article. The whole thing is just as misleading.

This was sanewashing by the @washingtonpost.com. No two ways about it. A disgrace, at this point.

Carr on Judicial Sanewashing
Erin M. Carr (Seattle University School of Law) has posted Nothing to See Here: Judicial Sanewashing and the Obfuscation of Constitutional Disorder (Review of Law and Social Justice) on SSRN. Here is the abstract: Less than two years after critics cautioned of the dystopian results of “sanewashing” Donald Trump’s incoherent and factually untethered public pronouncements during the 2024 presidential elections, the country’s political and legal landscape has become unrecognizable.
