Thinking Saran thoughts today. Thinking about how DRK is cathartic for her beyond everything else going on in the quests. DRK is about casting aside your shield and your previous allegiances - Saran WAS a knight of Baron, but Baron is gone. She has no one's cause to fight for but her own

Also thinking about her appearance. I picked her hair colour on a whim, but what if the blue is the hair colour of her host body, and pink was her original hair colour back when she lived in the Thirteenth, slowly coming through as she remembers who she was before the Flood of Darkness? 👀

I feel like the BLM questline will become heavily tied up in Saran's MSQ in the same way DRK did for Roscoe. We won't be playing sprout MSQ for a while because my friends are busy but I'll keep levelling in the meantime. The blorbo disease has struck

I picked up PLD as her first tank and I DO love the sword and shield I picked for her (this is how I ended up deciding her voidsent form looks something like a scorpion, thanks to a friend's suggestion). But perhaps a part of that was clinging onto what she remembered of her old life

Fun idea my friend came up with for when I pick up reaper on Saran: the battle animations for when you summon your avatar (Blood Stalk, Grim Swathe etc)? That's just her true form separating itself from her vessel for a split second

Ultimately Saran is... not un-Ascian-like in her possession of a host body and she is painfully aware of that. She doesn't like it, but currently has no other way to carry out her mission in the Source, because Elidibus did not deign to grant her another form when he sent her over the rift

I forgot that when you have your meeting with Thordan they take your headgear off. Just imagining the guards at the door holding out a hand and going "glasses," to Saran before she walked in. She was just squinting for this entire scene

In related news we finished Crystal Tower tonight and now I'm turning Saran over like a rotisserie chicken in my brain, pondering on how a brief dip back into the void went for her and her maybe-living-maybe-dead vessel

It's also going to be interesting getting into HW and evaluating Saran's response to, well, most of the NPCs. Roscoe dislikes Haurchefant, Aymeric, and the rest of the Fortemps, so having a character who tolerates them is going to be a very different experience. Much to think about

Not going to actually do it because I'm too attached to her, but it would be funny turning up to every other play session fanta'd into something else because she's shambling around in a succession of various corpses, and just explain it away to sprout friends as "felt like a change"

I've decided Saran takes up DRG because it amuses her in a way. She gets mistaken for being part-dragon by several Ishgardians in her journey, much as Sidurgu was, so she embaces it. (She is not a dragon. She is also not an Au Ra. She is a voidsent 🙂)

Speaking of Sidurgu, yes, she will absolutely be picking up DRK. I don't think there is a world in which I could play a character who didn't pick up DRK. I just got PLD to 50 after playing DRG through ARR so we could swap in and out, but also because I missed tanking too much
