SPT winterover Karia Dibert pictured under a nearly full moon (or moondog) at the #southpole (Pic by Toshin Rao). On a 2-mile thick ice sheet in many directions the horizon is featureless, and the moon beautifully highlights the sastrugi. @NSF @doescience #Antarctica

sastrugi is a term for wind-blown, compacted snow. it often looks like a riverbed, bc after all, wind acts on snow much like a river acts on a riverbed.

The concept art for the Sastrugi is done! This is a new species of spacefaring pirates to be introduced to Pinwheel in the near future as part of a new faction. This lovely artwork comes courtesy of @oouna.art
