It's frustrating to see 🇬🇧🇬🇧 posts praising Iceland for not joining the EU, without realising that Iceland is in the European Economic Area, Schengen, and the Single Market, with many other EU benefits. Their vote was to prevent MEPs from voting on EU regulations that Iceland has to follow.
Why is it that I can say these things are brilliant & I've never (no recollection) seen any posts here on BSky from any Brits vaunting € or Schengen as the huge successes they are & singing all their upsides.Not from John Martin.Not even from Sarah Murphy⬆️,whose contents I like&"like" & repost.12/n

As I board the ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki, I’m reminded yet again of three things about the EU:
1) You don’t sacrifice any of your national identity or culture by being part of the EU. Estonia remains Estonia. Finland remains Finland
2) Schengen is great.
3) Brexit was and is shit.

I served in the Army in Germany before Schengen. To get back to the UK by road I had to stop and show my passport at the German/Netherlands border, the Netherlands/Belgium border and the Belgium/France border.
Once Schengen came into force the border posts were closed and I drove straight through.

That was always the case before Schengen. There are hundreds and hundreds of paths and tracks that never had a border post. The border posts on roads also waved through nearly all cars and checked very few.
