Yup. Lots of individual stories from any era of science fiction have things to recommend them to modern readers. What we're talking about here is the gestalt of the "Golden Age" of US science fiction, which was, overtly and otherwise, greatly shaped by John W. Campbell.
There are plenty of exceptions and SF story gems from the time, but a lot of what I've read was white male wish fulfillment, often cringeworthy.

Just wanted to share a good line from this podcast: “Robert Heinlein, he’s particularly noted for his contributions to the field of ‘Hard Sci-fi’, which is, what if science fiction was boring?”

I'm starting to believe he's never actually seen any of the science fiction pop culture films he's referenced, nor read the books.

I dunno, I think one of the great things about science fiction is that it lets us imagine impossible things, ponder worlds that could never be, like a world where LeVar Burton couldn't get it
obviously it's not remotely levar burton's fault but on my recent casual rewatch I'm realizing the majority of geordi eps are instant skips for me these days

It's just a fully science fiction scenario that exists to serve a great bit of TV. I think is genuinely impressive to come up with *about your own country*.
