I’m Lucas, I’m a marine biologist for the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries. Like most government biologists, I wear a bunch of different hats. But I mostly deal with research about and management of spotted seatrout and weakfish in NC

Please don’t dismiss as 2 anglers moaning. Stuart’s seatrout stats tell a story of ecological collapse and I see evidence in all rivers I visit. It’s way bigger than water companies shitting in water (tho they’re major players) it’s proper existential stuff 4 fish, birds, bats and ultimately us x

One of my favourite recent wildlife encounters is this stunning #SeaTrout in one of our precious Sussex chalkstreams.

Introduction time. Hi, I’m Lucas. I’m a marine biologist for North Carolina and do a combo of research and #Fisheries management. The research (e.g., age, grow, movement) influences the management (e.g., size/bag limits) to achieve sustainable populations. Here’s me tagging my first Spotted Seatrout

After my morning coffee, I sat down at the fly tying bench. Soon it will be time for the coast and fjord! #seatrout #flytying

I think I missed some days, but for #Fishmas today I’m going to video! Here’s my oldest kiddo releasing her first tagged Spotted Seatrout. They’re an important recreational and commercial species in NC. We use tagging studies to understand things like mortality, habitat use, and movement patterns 🧪🦑

I’m Lucas and I’m a marine biologist. I work for the state in North Carolina studying spotted seatrout and weakfish. And sometimes I remember to post about them or marine biology or anything. Clearly rocking this #SciComm thing 😬 🧪🐠🦑

My oldest is supposed to shadow a #Fisheries scientist for a school project. Loved giving my kiddo an insight into some of the more fun parts of my work. Here she is tagging her first Spotted Seatrout 🦑🧪
