There's a journal called "Linguistics", which is different from the journal "Journal of Linguistics". There's also the journal "Language" which is different from the journal "Languages". Obviously we need to establish the "Journal of Language" and "Journal of Languages" to finish this mess. 🐦🐦

man, Afroasiatic is so weird. Ancient Egyptian and the Amazigh languages look almost alien coming from a background in Semitics, and then you look at a verb paradigm or a pronoun table and it’s like. ah. right

Humanities are likewise not immune to this trend. Just in my own niche, I've seen numerous specialists in Biblical theology, comparative Semitics, book history, palaeography, etc. get annoyed at the mere suggestion that Orientalism and Eurocentrism are not solved problems.
