Being able to read isn’t just about being able to sound out words and literally understand a meaning of each one. It is also about being able to use context clues to obtain meaning from a text and make sense of its message.

The reason fascists are able to exploit your "ew thats icky!" Response is because your sense of morality is tied to your sense of disgust. Things you find "gross" will also seem morally wrong, even if the logic doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

Iran, a country whose military we’ve supposedly “destroyed,” was able to shoot down a U.S. Apache helicopter during a “ceasefire,” in the middle of a war that Americans have been told is not a war, while also being told it’s only “two days” from ending.

Supporting living wages is common sense. Someone working full time should be able to afford housing, groceries, and bills with their paycheck alone.
