What I like to see more of in fantasy?
Whimsy, Light-heartedness, Wonder, and some Fun with your fantasy (don't be so serious like with Harry Potter).
What kind of character archetypes, tropes, or worldbuilding elements do you like to see in fantasy/sci fi media? What things, when you see them, immediately make you more interested in the story?

I like it when the implications of magic and monsters existing are actually taking into account in the worldbuilding.

I love to see subversion of old tropes but done respectfully to the cast, reflective cultures (Queer, BIPOC, Disabilities), and without excess cynicism or no-hope. Gotta keep hope.

I definitely like seeing characters in non-traditional occupations step into the role of hero/MC. It’s part of the reason FWC revolves around Kai, a healer.
Give me more of that! We need folks from non-heroic roles stepping up to save the day!

Amongs other things, some that i believe very important to worldbuilding is a healthy doze of 'Unreliable Narrator' and 'Intentional Plot Holes'. >>

Game: Fields of Mistria (I'm addicted)
Anime: Jaadugar (just finished!), Magic Knight Rayearth (wanted to watch the original before the remake comes out so I can judge it)
Book: Vultures by @luketarzian.bsky.social (tore my heart in half)
What fantasy or scifi (or horror!) media have you been engaging with lately? Games, TV, books, anime, whatever ya got, tell me what you're enjoying! Or, perhaps... NOT enjoying?👀

In general, I want Science Fiction to care as much about its narrative constraints and what those constraints do for a story as Fantasy does about constraining magic so it doesn't kill the stakes of the story. 1/6

This might seem like an odd hyper fixation, but lately I’ve been getting into Umamusume: Pretty Derby.
It’s actually kinda cute!

I'm very into flawed protagonists. Evil with a capital E antagonists. Magic that's esoteric, hard to understand, dangerous and unstable. Severe danger at the heart of the narrative, a plague, magic so out of control it might go Chernobyl, monsters that...

I like narration with an opinion. Unreliable is great, but does the narrator think what is happening is BS?

Time travel is one of my favourite tropes, but I can get picky about it.
Broadly speaking, in fantasy, I love worlds that feel properly otherworldly, with elements that are just completely unlike our world, that to the people of the world are just the norm.

The elements a show or movie contain don't interest me anywhere near as much as what the story is saying. I can get lost in a low-budget film with killer writers just as easily as a blockbuster with questionable dialogue.
Tell me a good story.

30: I am a huge fan of lovable rogues, heists, grimdark/crapsack worlds, and other elements of stories related to fantasy-style thieves' and assassins' guilds, especially. I will say, that while these will inevitably suck me into a story, I wouldn't necessarily call them a...

Been watching the topically dystopian anime, Psycho Pass. I also just marathoned Kane Pixels's entire YouTube channel after watching Backrooms, and I absolutely love it. Reminds me a lot of the nonsensical geometry I write about for the realm, Esraidambôl.

I recently finished reading Sunrise on the Reaping and watching the Hunger Games movies.
I've also been playing D&D on the regular.
