A ton of “men writing women” and “bad sex scene” stuff is just people unfamiliar with literary fiction gawking at it from the outside, or judging it as failed erotica, and they would be just as shocked by the writing of e.g. Toni Morrison or Han Kang if you scrubbed the serial numbers off. It sucks
I find stuff like r/menwritingwomen unproductive, glib, and gender essentialist. It so often devolves into sneering for the sake of making oneself look cooler than or morally superior to the art being mocked.
