Rarely do I reread my students’ class assignments. Except the A paper from my 2016 Tales of Wonder comparing gender/race in the Shahnamah & the Silmarillion #Shahnarillion

I have absolutely no realism about what I actually have the attention span to read. Like yeah sure I'll read a nine-volume translation of the Shahnamah on a whim. I'm sure no other whims will get in the way of that.

I've now also started reading "Marvellous histories: Reading the Shāhnāmah in India" and it's difficult to stop and go back to work.

A quick showcase of displays in the ‘Game On!’ exhibition at @agakhanmuseum.org in Toronto, featuring two of our most beautifully illustrated Persian manuscripts: the Shahnamah and the Chess Treatise. On view until 7 September 2026.
