"Romanticism and Frankenstein? Who would have thought?"
- The Shelleys
Apparently Guillermo Del Toro has ruined Frankenstein by… being relatively faithful to the source material.

Oh my.

Seventy years ago a small British studio began filming the first colour version of Mary Shelleys novel with two minor Brit actors. I hear they did rather well. 1957.

Described Byron/The Shelleys as a situationship today in class.
"Mad, bad, and dangerous to know" is still one my favorite lines.

As far as we know, the Shelleys never got any more direct compensation, and this probably gave rise to the myth that Mary Shelley didn't get much money for Frankenstein. She did, though.

Mary Shelley (1797-1851)
She wrote 𝑭𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒌𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒊𝒏 on a dare, and the book gained recognition. Still, the Shelleys struggled with debt and a bad reputation. Mary always maintained her authorship of the book, despite rumors that it was really written by her husband.

Rushed to cash in on Hammers success but with Wolfits prime ham and Shelleys obvious charms its a gloriously ghoulish full-blooded romp. 1958.

I blame Bernie Wrightson for triggering interest in it, but the book, the Shelleys, Wollstonecraft, Godwin, they were all interesting.

It's my favourite rabbit hole.

Bently was lucky because he still held copyright to Frankenstein at the time of the onset of the Copyright Act of 1842. This was a total financial jackpot for him ( and a source of bitterness to the Shelleys).

This reminds me of the screenshot that shows Mary Shelleys work is AI according to an AI checker

And i fucking hope he has since apologized because this is absurd af
So I woke up this morning to find out that Ozzy Osbourne’s son made a video falsely accusing me of using AI to write a Rolling Stone article about the Tate brothers.

BBC Four repeated this curio from 1992 on Wednesday: Dread Poets Society, in which Benjamin Zephaniah encounters Byron, Keats and the Shelleys on a train. Alan Cumming as Percy Shelley, Dexter Fletcher as Keats, Timothy Spall as a baffled tool salesman. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

Happy anniversary of the Villa Diodati summer, where the Shelleys, Lord Byron, Claire Clairmont and Polidori gathered in a house on the shores of Lake Geneva and told ghost stories.

Celebrate by taking laudanum and hallucinating horrors, or by watching one of the films inspired by the events:

Wenn man sich die Kindersterblichkeit anschaut und Shelleys eigene Geschichte, dann ist der Gedanke Gott zu spielen und etwas wieder zum Leben zu erwecken nicht weit. Auch der Wahn und die Verzweiflung nachdem man etwas „geboren“ hat hat eine reale Entsprechung namens Wochenbettdepression. Aber hey.
