I wrote about LEGEND, a really beautiful and affecting execution of a bunch of shopworn imagery and archetypes. Just a wonderful film, and so clearly an inspiration for many, many later titans of the genre.

47. I know this is shopworn by now, but seriously, don't show us the monster. Keep that shit hidden as long as you can. It's so much scarier.

The critique I’d make is no one wants to hear another shopworn homily about bipartisan common ground. It should be more like ‘if Republicans aren’t able to govern with their majorities, they’re going to have to make some real concessions and learn to stand up to this lawless WH to earn Dem votes.’

"You can’t reboot the planet if you crash it" | My commentary on Bill Gates' flawed new climate missive for @thebulletin.org: thebulletin.org/2025/10/you-...
You can’t reboot the planet if you crash it
What Gates is putting forward aren’t legitimate arguments that can be made in good faith. They are shopworn fossil fuel industry talking points.

I gotta say, that whole “I disagree with what you say but will defend your right to say it” principle has gotten rather shopworn.
It should be honored in disagreements among rational people of good intent.

2. Color in cinema

Good morning. My few zinnias are looking a little shopworn. The weather is cooling down, finally, and we'll enjoy it.

This is the kind of observation I would have found compelling when I was like...19, back in the summer of 2000. But now it just seems shopworn, shallow, and self-aggrandizing.
If I were to put on my culture studies hat I'd point out that this era dominated by childish forms of mass media (superheroes, video games, Star Wars) has also produced a politics of infantile regression. Just a thought
