"People believe they literally got transported to a parallel universe before they'd believe they misremembered something" is a pretty good line and some people *do* think that, but I also feel like most people who use "Mandela effect" just mean it as as shorthand for "widely misremembered thing"

as i keep saying we use "bad boyars" as shorthand for trumpers blaming other people and the actual czarist thing you do when you run out of bad boyars is to blame the jews
By 2028, the entire country is going to broadly regard Trump as a failure, which means the nationalist right is going to need to find a villain who betrayed Trumpism. And it is going to be very convenient to blame it on Israel for supposedly forcing Trump into the Iran War.
Vance clearly laying the groundwork for "the Jews made me do it"

Amongst other projects i has been chipping away at some Rebel Troopers for Star Wars Legion. Forgive the stolen shorthand of making them redshirts.

I think the meanings went in rough order from “literal supernatural conspiracy” -> ironic reference to supernatural doofuses -> shorthand for widely misremembered thing

I will say tho there is a very common trend of "emotional shorthand" where sincere moments dont hit as hard because all the characters slip into the same gesures

Imagine a character being sheepish, if you imagine your character is rubbing the back of their head or their sleeve, thats shorthand.

Oh, for sure. I was just using a shorthand of sorts

Joke’s on them. We’ve been calling it the Trump Reflecting Pool all year. It’s shorthand for a giant vat of pond scum.

However considering the very amicable relationships there "uncle" is fine as shorthand

The idea that masturbation is some sort of masculine gotcha has always confused me. But it's even more confusing coming as a left-wing critique, when you're basically teaming up with the Catholic church and the Proud Boys to use masturbation as a shorthand for weakness and impotence.

How about shorthand?
I came across my mom's shorthand book and OMG! 😵‍💫😄

Hell, I've embraced my relative fame ignorance in my middle age. You'd think more folks would.

What's going to happen in the very near term is that recognizably AI-assisted/generated work will be culturally coded as the aesthetic of poverty - "looks like AI" will replace "dollar store" as a shorthand for 'cheap junk for poors' and looking "AI free" will become a status symbol (like "organic")
The Daily Princetonian has published some student reactions to the announcement that the university is giving them all ChatGPT access and -- as most teachers will tell you -- none of the students actually want this garbage.

(Note: I apologize for using "AI" as a shorthand for large language models in the above thread. This site has a character limit and sometimes does not leave space for nuance. "AI" is a misleading term because there is of course no intelligence in LLM code assistants, only statistics and plagiarism.)

I did… it was the shorthand use of “widespread welfare fraud” that I think is extremely important to always note basically never comes from individuals on SNAP or Medicaid, which Republicans claim constantly.

if there’s anything that can douse my enthusiasm for a fantasy story with talking animals it is when specific animals get stuck in the “evil/untrustworthy/etc” category. I dont care if it is easy shorthand for stories, IT’S WRONG.
