🇺🇸 BREAKING: D.C. United has signed free agent GK Sean Johnson, per sources.

Johnson, 36, a longtime top GK in MLS. Was one of the best in the league in underlying shotstopping data last year with Toronto.

Dickey was Lorena's shotstopping equal, but faced more and tougher shots with the Reign. That's why she got our vote!

leah freeman, wtf

Dickey's been having a nice run of it over the last 2+ years.

Needless to say, this was Liverpool’s worst performance of the season. PSG was the better team in every department except the goalkeeping/shotstopping

My favorite thing I’ve ever done for ASA was code the Swiss cheese into the keep wheels 😂😂😂

The Portland Thorns rode finishing luck and some dicey shotstopping to control the game state and earn all three points against the San Diego Wave.

xG per Shot: 0.04 - 0.09
Quality Chances*: 0 - 2

First-half USAvBEL thoughts:
📐USMNT decent but a cold reminder of tight margins vs elite opponents
😈Doku = MENACE. Weah @ RB looked like a smart pick to match his athleticism but... the dude kept slashing. 🇧🇪's dangerman
🧤Turner's shotstopping was top, but his passing got US into trouble here & there

Bürki’s shotstopping metrics have consistently regressed year over year,

Goals saved over expected, by year:

+8.29
+6.20
+0.81
-1.07, currently

Is that partially attributable to #AllForCITY getting worse? Sure.

Is that also attributable to him being 35 now? Probably.
Is he really that much worse? Or is something else happening?

Haračić so far this season (out of 17 keepers with at least 500 minutes):

Shotstopping Index (1=avg, lower=better): 1.28 (15th)

"Cover Your Area" possession value (claiming, punches/parries, sweeping actions) [0=avg]: -0.04 (t-13th)
Haracic directly responsible for three goals, as I see it, with bad technique and worse decision-making. Would love to know if the numbers (goals prevented?) agree.
That’s the third goal Haracic has allowed with just awful technique. No shuffling her feet. No footwork whatsoever. She just falls to her right and doesn’t get anywhere near Faase’s shot. 🤮

Typically I wouldn't want to trade shotstopping for possession play but when nobody on the team can possess the ball and Spurs don't have the attackers to turn chaos into goals. The defensive possession is working really well.

The relationship between goals prevented & shotstopping pts is unsurprisingly linear. Notable exceptions:

* Good shotstopping for #AustinFC & #RCTID have been overshadowed by poor play elsewhere
* Inconsistency for #HolditDown & #OrlandoCity resulted in positive contributions despite negative stats

per ASA, Claudia Dickey is second in the league in shotstopping goals added, at ~0.356 / 90. per Opta, Claudia Dickey is first in the league in PSxG-GA, at 0.62 / 90.

I'm just saying a lot of y'all are fucking sleeping on Dickey still.

When she was at W. Sydney in 22-23, Bloomer conceded all three pens she faced. Is she better now? Is it small-sample randomness? Tough to know!

Ditto her great shotstopping (0.8 GA per post-shot xG faced). With only 72 shots on target faced in her NWSL career, is she legit, or is she on a heater?
For a team that is learning to love making every opponent endure 90 Minutes of Hell, Bloomer's mix of shot-stopping and big personality is such an ideal match.

Is she the best with her feet? No, but Racing needs what she's bringing much more than jogo bonito in goal.
jordyn bloomer is so legit

Poch on Zack Steffen's "amazing" shotstopping: "For us, I think the 'keeper needs to save [first and foremost], & today he was great. And then we can add in different areas, to work with a 'keeper. But it was important in this type of situation, the 'keeper needs to save. And he showed his quality."

Love the platform yall built. Love how it incorporates more goalkeeping aspects than just shotstopping

It does say Risser has elite shotstopping while stats show he's weak for saves?

Think we’re just a better side with Trafford. Had to play in our own third an awful lot in that first half and I just don’t think we’d have been able to do it anywhere near as well with Donnarumma. He’s also proven today that his shotstopping is good.
It’s a very nice problem to have, but I think Peps got a big decision to make about our keepers this summer. Trafford is too good to be number 2 isn’t he. If I was asked to pick just one to stay I’d really struggle.
March 22, 2026 at 8:43 PM
Another potential explanation: goalkeeper shotstopping may have regressed.

Shot quality has been flat between '22 and '25.

However, keepers have let in 8 more goals than expected this tournament. In '22, they allowed 5 fewer.

But given the sample size, is that skill or luck?
July 15, 2025 at 9:56 PM
Why? These fuckups can be addressed. Doubt we’ll see him repeat them anytime soon. His shotstopping has been phenomenal, including that batshit one today with his right foot.
