I wrote about 商店街 shopping arcades over on my personal site. Osaka is filled with them, twice as densely as Tokyo. I think they're worth a tourist visit, but you have to be willing to give up the flashy selfie destinations in their place. moralesdaniel.com/shotengai/

I absolutely love a cool Japanese shopping district. One of my favorites these days is Togoshi-Ginza in Shinagawa, which is the result of three shōtengai merging together
