I’m also slowly working on A Masterpiece in Disarray when I want a break from research. But the research is so interesting, that’s rare :)

Fun! I’m reading Reminiscing With Sissle and Blake (by Robert Kimball and William Bolcom) because I’m doing a theme show about them in February.
I'll play! I'm reading @shteyngart.bsky.social's Lake Success (and really enjoying it), because it's been a minute since I read him and I love his style.

What are you reading and why?
This is a good game.

What are you reading and why?

Me, I'm reading Yootie's "Sunspot". Why? Because it's got this utterly glorious degree of nerding out about its multi dimensional runic magic system and also it's so incredibly queer, and the writing is just... chef kiss, so good.

The original show, from 1921, was composed by the famous duo of Eubie Blake and Noble Sissle, with book by Flournoy Miller and Aubrey Lyles. If you know the old Broadway mainstays, you know some of the songs from it: Love Will Find A Way and I'm Just Wild About Harry survived it pretty well.

MuchMusic in Canada would launch August 31, 1984. The first video was a 1920's Eubie Blake and Noble Sissle short performing Snappy Songs followed by Rush playing The Enemy Within. Maybe not as memorable as the Buggles but in a lot of ways way cooler. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZtz...
