Launched last year by the Chicago Department of Transportation and the Department of Finance, the Smart Streets pilot program uses camera technology on City vehicles – and now CTA buses – to enforce parking and standing violations in bus and bike lanes and bus stops.
Starting October 15, the City of Chicago will use camera technology installed on CTA buses to issue warnings via mail to vehicles parked in bus lanes, bike lanes, and bus stops. All images will be reviewed by enforcement personnel before warnings are issued. Following this 30-day warning period, fines will be issued to vehicles parked illegally in bus lanes, bus stops, and bike lanes.
