AI is the IoT
You may ask: why do fridges need to be connected to the internet in the first place? Why can't you turn them up and down with a big dial? The answer is that we've spent the last two decades persuading every business that they have to be a tech business and this is what happens.
More cyberattacks on refrigeration infrastructure—this time in Belgium, Sweden, and Luxembourg

Que maravillosa era la IoT ¿Eh?

We dont need IoT

La vieille blague "the s in IoT stands for security" ne vieillit malheureusement pas beaucoup

Pitää ilmeisesti edelleen paikkansa, että lyhenteessä IOT, S tarkoittaa tietoturvaa.

as the old adage goes "in 'IoT', the 'S' stands for Security"

This is the future of IoT and over optimization.

You don’t need aggressive monitoring and alerts if you have quality humans in the loop.

this man has 20 different apps he specifically needs iot

Wenn uns doch nur jemand vor IOT gewarnt hätte… Achja, wurden wir ja. Seit Jahrzehnten. Vom CCC.🤦🏻‍♂️

IOT was a mistake

This is industrial IoT stuff. Cold chain traceability, for one.

Obviously the implementation is very bad but it does make sense to have it connected

oh yeah I was just addressing the "why change ever" part. doesn't need to be IoT.

Et surtout les enfants, rappelez vous: "The S in IoT stands for Security!"
Soudain on reçoit une information prédite par personne, à part tous les informaticiens : les systèmes connectés sont bourrés de failles de sécurité.

Après c'est pas comme si on disait depuis des années que les objets IOT doivent être sur un réseau séparé du parc machine.
Maybe the Internet of Things is a stupid idea. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

trying to explain iot stuff to my dad but every two sentences there's a new word like matter or zigbee or mesh or poe or mqtt and he looks at me like i'm insane

Primero: esto NO es IoT de andar por casa. No hablamos de la nevera de la cocina con wifi y pantalla. Hablamos de refrigeración industrial y comercial, que es otro mundo.

I remember being a tech journalist when IoT everything was in vogue and constantly thinking, “yeah but why?”
November 2, 2026 at 2:06 PM
also most of the vendors are booty cheeks about the safety/robustness of their iot setups, so you also have that issue.

I did a load of IoT stuff in the noughties and as a practitioner/evangelist for user-focused engineering I'd naturally ask what type of user wanted the connectivity and in probably 50% of cases the answer was "marketing want IoT on the box".
