One of the great things about early season mountain botany, is that when the plants aren't so lush you can enjoy looking at the bryophytes with fewer distractions! Two lovely ones here - Bryum alpinum and one of the Anthelia snow-bed liverworts 😍

Parallel to other #SoilEcology project, we at the #AlpSoil_Lab of #EuracResearch started with the #SnowBed project to sample #SoilMesofauna in #alpine environment.

Late this year but it is sunny up there!

And then Rudolph is busy living his superstar lifestyle, snowing himself on the snowbed in his garden all draped in his reindeer bling, and he's absolutely not standing for DinoKaren's judgement, especially not while she's busy trying to break into his house using stolen Christmas magic!

Despite high phenological plasticity, snowbed specialists may face competitive pressure from better adapted species. Internal-clock-driven senescence timing could limit their ability to benefit from longer growing seasons.

Climate change advances snowmelt timing, threatening specialized plant communities in alpine snowbeds. Our 3-year study investigates snowbed communities at two LTER sites in the Italian Alps, combining high-resolution microclimate data, phenological monitoring & phenocams 🏔️
Phenological responses of alpine snowbed communities to advancing snowmelt
Our study investigates the phenological responses of five typical snowbed species to advancing snowmelt using in situ monitoring, phenocam imagery and predictive modelling. Over 3 years, we found tem....
