Carney's main defence of this deal is that net revenues (money left over after snowclearing, maintenance, etc) will be small or even non-existent for the first few years. Which could well be true. But whatever profit turns up for 15 years, this deal means Canada has less of it to pay down its debt.

Cuts to the arts were reversed in every budget, @alexbierk.bsky.social notes - so was an idea to stop snowclearing sidewalks. Why would they suggest these ideas council has already turned down?

Anyone who knows me knows I have zero patience for snowclearing that puts pedestrians last. So - Winnipeg: I don't know who is responsible for Chancellor Matheson Rd (city? university?) but it's a mess. A complete and utter accessibility disaster. Seriously? (road, of course, is perfect)

You are right, feature not a bug. Happens too often & City has been told too many times over the years for this to be a mistake. When it comes to transportation, we very much have a class system. We recently sent a 311 about a blocked sidewalk by snowclearing, response was 10 days. #winnipeg
