New York City's permitting gauntlet for home batteries can take longer than a lease renewal. Pila's fix: a 1.6 kWh unit you plug in like a lamp, no inspector, no gatekeeper. Group-buy with neighbors, split the bill, keep the lights on when Con Ed can't. The permit was never about safety.
Plug-in Batteries Crack NYC's Storage Lock-Out: Permissionless Power Without the Permit
Pila Energy is selling modular 1.6 kWh plug-in batteries that sidestep New York City's permitting gauntlet, pairing them with solar through Brooklyn SolarWorks and bundling neighbors into group-purchase discounts. The move exposes how code barriers, not chemistry or safety, have kept backup power out of reach for renters and condo owners.

I'm posting this because I think people don't grasp how much money solar panels can save you.
Our 2-floor, 100% electric home has a normal Brooklyn Solarworks roof installation.
Below: our last 12 months of ConEd bills. Average $30 a month.
The average NYC residential ConEd bill? $336 a month.
