Shatterhand originated as the Solbrain (yes, the Metal Heroes series) tie-in game.

I backed y'all yesterday. Keep up the good work! It really has that Solbrain, B Fighter, Winspector type vibe

Tonight, on #DKU, it’s the last new Tokusatsu Thursday for 2026 with episodes of Kabuto, Solbrain, Kikaider 01 and more at 7 pm ET. Then, the first 2 magical episodes of Zero: Dragon Blood on Magic Tales of Garo at 10 pm.

There was only a two-month difference in release dates between Japan (released by Bandai subsidiary Angel) & North America (released by Jaleco), so it was likely designed from the start to be both Solbrain & Shatterhand so that it could see worldwide release.

My original write-up, with an update about how to download the new release!

thing is, the design docs seem to suggest Solbrain was actually the reskin all along. 🤔

there's also a gallery with box/manual/flyer scans, complete with JP-translated versions

additionally, Natsume's given them a ton of design docs, viewable raw or translated into English

The irony of it all that Shatterhand had to lose the Solbrain license in order to be released outside of Japan back in the day... only for Solbrain to finally have an official English release, yet the Solbrain game can't even get re-released in Japan.

There is no Solbrain, only Shatterhand.

when bandai subsidiary angel reskinned it into solbrain, they tried to explain the discrepancy between the tv show by say it's a prequel to the show

Big @discotekmedia.bsky.social delivery. This is your reminder to buy Toku physical media so we don’t get another Sentai debacle.

To me, having any doubt that Shatterhand came first and not Solbrain is like looking at a licensed reskin of a game and going "was Zelda a reskin of Mobile Suit Gundam: Fight Against Demon Lord Ganon and Rescue of the Galactic Princess????" so I'm glad that's finally settled

we'll know for sure later in the month but given that it was announced in Japan as being a Shatterhand reissue, I can't imagine it also contains Solbrain

there's also the fact that Jaleco's only attached to Shatterhand—Solbrain was published by a different company, and Natsume owns the software

The Japanese version of Shatterhand was based on a tv show called Solbrain. I’m interested to see if they got the license for it (they’d have to go through Bandai I believe)

Saying bunny the same way Miyauchi says burning in the Solbrain OP.

Been giving some metal hero stuff a try for something different and I'm enjoying myself so far with Solbrain.

Are they releasing (I assume these are rereleases) SHATTERHAND because they don’t have the SOLBRAIN license?

With a Gaoranger DVD set still eluding me, another small scraping attempt to put tokusatsu sets a little more prominently on the collection list. Set prices going way up doesn't help, but a few sales here and there do. Baby steps.

rachel, don't hold out on us!! release the Shatterhand Files!!!!

but yeah I think playing both (and watching Super Rescue Solbrain) also becomes pretty obvious this is the case - the mechanics don't really make any sense as a Solbrain game, the differences in the JP ver feel pretty hacked together
August 6, 2026 at 10:04 PM
there's a lot of stuff that's not on the page that i dug up while initially researching this, but yeah, i can pretty confidently say that Solbrain is a reskin. i know of quite a few games where this is the case, despite release dates indicating otherwise
August 6, 2026 at 9:08 PM
There's some possible proof of this on TCRF, via Shatterhand specific assets inside Solbrain. I think this is proof of at the very least of them being developed in parallel, or perhaps it began development as Shatterhand and then had the license applied.
August 6, 2026 at 7:16 PM
Its been rumored that Shatterhand is the "original" version, and that the Solbrain version released in Japan was actually the modified one, despite being released earlier.

Would be nice if somebody from Natsume could get into this game's development history. Would love to hear about it.
