Epstein-Barr, herpes, and shingles vaccines shelved should get people hounded out of society. That’s beyond anti-vaccine or anti-intellectualism. It’s reactionary know-nothingism. If there’s such a thing as technological solutionism, this is tech problematicizing.

The king of tech-solutionism strikes again.

I'll see your techno-optimism and raise you a tech solutionism and tech exceptionalism.

If the 2010s were marked by techno-solutionism, then the 2020s might be the decade of "natural solutionism". Both are flawed, disdain the regulatory state, and in both "expertise is treated as suspect, corrupt, or altogether illegitimate, with anecdotes and mantras replacing verifiable data"

From RFK Jr. to Hollywood A-listers and Democratic senators, people across the political spectrum are jumping onto the slippery slope of nature-based solutionism.

this whole thing has been a sad case study of antisocial hubris and tech solutionism

When I scheduled this episode, I hadn’t even considered what day it would be dropping. Anyway, here’s @danmcquillan.bsky.social talking about AI as fascistic solutionism.
AI is a form of “fascistic solutionism” that diverts us from serious problems and presents tech that classifies and surveils as a solution.

Up next in our premium interviews from DATA VAMPIRES is @danmcquillan.bsky.social!

AI solutionism: "I have a hammer! Let me find a nail to hit with it."

AI hype: "This hammer is here to stay! Let me hit myself on the head with it."

This is unfortunately just a piece of tech solutionism which does not actually address, and seems to unfortunately exacerbate, the underlying negative relational social values :\

yes, this goes back to my basic point. imagine telling someone railing against 'solutionism' and 'technocracy' that a TRUCK -- a quintessential mechanical beast of burden -- was designed almost solely for aesthetic reasons
this is explicitly why the cybertruck looks like dogshit. Elon designed to look like he imagined the truck of the future looking, not to be a functional truck or look good

I am always saying this

AI solutionism is a faith-based religion and more people should reject it purely on that principle (instead of the softer arguments about how effective it is, the environmental cost, the labor cost, etc).

You cannot technofix/technological solutionism your way out of sociocultural values problems.

There is much critique of techno-solutionism, or the idea that we can have the same things but better/more sustainable through technology, but the converse of this, a "naturalistic solutionism," that says we can have beef as long as it comes from a grass-fed cow, deserves just as much critique.

Really great study on the rather troubling online discourse around Japanese language learning in certain portions of the web, focused on "techno-solutionism", consumption, and native bias just got published by a good buddy of mine. Open access too! Check it out @ academic.oup.com/applij/advan...

So much of this language is almost indistinguishable from the way Albanese speaks - focusing on free market mechanisms, techno-solutionism, constantly about affordability and reliability and downplaying and dismissing climate

In the wake of HU elections, social media flooded with „Just do x and far-right populism will be defeated“-solutionism.

If it were as simple as anti-corruption campaigning, Fidesz would have been defeated by 2018.

Yeah I don’t know sometimes techno-solutionism works

The tragedy of the cookie banner is that it embodies the best intentions but worst solutionism of modern regulation: the fantasy that complex problems such as digital surveillance can be solved by forcing individuals to click "I agree."
