It’s likely that this cat has a somatic mutation, which is not uncommon on red-based animals (cats, dogs, and horses all have somatic mutations more often with red-based coats) His non-somatic cells are XY, but the cells that have mutated picked up an extra X chromosome, expressing in small patches.

i have very few opinions about trans people. i think that "male" and "female" somatic maps are probably two saddle points somehow encoded into most people's brains, that most people end up in one or the other, and ending up with a noncorresponding somatic map is distressing.
