#Sovremennik
To be honest, I was a little upset by this news, as I liked this actress.

French actress Fanny Ardant came to Russia on tour. As part of the Chereshnevy Les (Cherry Forest) Open Art Festival, she performed her one-woman show Thirst for Passion on stage at Moscow's Sovremennik Theater⤵️

Another cover was released in 1974 by Moscow Jazz Orchestra Sovremennik

During the 1960s Sovremennik was led by the trumpeter Eddie Rosner and was known as Eddie Rosner's Variety Orchestra. Rosner had created the band in 1954 after serving a 8-year sentence in Gulag. In 1973 he emigrated to Germany

Huge thank you to @olgaz.bsky.social for this Q&A about Avdot'ia Panaeva and to Margarita Vaysman and Fiona Bell for the marvelous discussion.

"Hers is a rare female voice in the predominantly male chorus of other big nineteenth-century Russian writers."

The Talnikov Family is also Panaeva’s most autobiographical work: it’s very personal and, as some critics have called it, “raw.”

Translators of drama are so good at preserving the historical quality of the language while also prioritizing the language’s readability, since they usually have contemporary actors in mind.

Panaeva’s most famous book, her Memoirs (1889) are ... considered essential for understanding the historical and social backdrop for classic nineteenth-century prose and poetry, like Ivan Turgenev’s Fathers and Children (1862) or poems by Nikolay Nekrasov.

"Russia is the most untold country". Journalist Vladimir Raevsky discusses how the history of the Sovremennik Theater, created during the Khrushchev thaw, inspires and gives hope today
