💫 2D Planet generator I am making for @produno.bsky.social's game SpaceSlog in #Godot!

These #shaders use a lot of hacky math and a lot of color gradients to render authentic and art-directable ocean, jungle and magma planets.

A 3 by 3 grid of planets, the rows being different types and the colums showing different sun positions and planet varyations.

The first row shows oceanic planets with deep water and brighter colors at the edges and where riffs lie. Clouds of different sizes cover the ocean surface that varies slightly in hue between the planets.

Where the planet transitions from day to night, the clouds show a gradient from white to light orange to dark purple to deep dark blue. Blue atmosphere gives each planet a small halo.

The second row is made of jungle planets with vast green continents , river valleys and mountain ranges. You can see some deserts too.

Last but not least a bunch of magma planets with dark grey clouds ret hot glowing craveses going across their whole surface. On the night side, you can see the clouds being illuminated from pools of lava at their edges. The magma planets all have a faint red atmosphere.

You can't see it, but these clouds are all actually moving! Figuring out realistic weather patterns was so cool.

Also: as the sand planets can have thicker or thinner atmosphere, they can also have more or less creators.

Two earth-like planets with mostly realistic shading next to each other. The left one has slightly cooler colors than the right one. They have clouds with realistic flow patterns and even a band of swirling formations between equator and pole.

3 desert planets in the same style, lit from different angles.

The left one is deep red and has also a thin red atmosphere and thick reddish clouds, the middle one looks more like mars with some faint yellow clouds and the left one has a brown-light-grey pattern and a lot of creators.
